Trilogy: Career, Management, and the Workplace

A good portion of our lives is spent at the workplace and working at home. Globalization has taken “do more with less resources” to a new level. Using my career experiences, observations, and education, I will bring real-life scenarios of the Trilogy: Career, Management, and the Workplace to you for interactive dialogue and commenting. Work-life balance is not an easy feat. The goal of my blog is to dive into trilogy challenges we see and face as well as provide realistic approaches to move forward.

Volunteer at the Auction & Support West Allis' Featured Artist

Believe it or not, the Channel 10 Great TV Auction is right around the corner. I have been a supporter and volunteer at the auction for 10+ years. It is such a fun and rewarding experience. If you are looking for a volunteer opportinity, you may want to give the Channel 10 Great TV Auction a try.

The staff and other volunteers are very personable and with the variety of tasks, there is something for everyone to do. You can come with a group or by yourself. I can't wait until the auction starts!

It is an exciting time for one West Allis resident in particular!

Maribeth Devine of West Allis is the auction’s Studio Collection Artist. Devine is an accomplished painter who boldly places her bright designs on all types of surfaces. During her 30-plus years as an artist, she’s painted mannequins, large-scale furniture pieces such as armoires and dining room tables and chairs, she’s covered ceilings and walls with murals and she’s even used her paintbrush to beautify bathroom fixtures.

Most recently, Devine has focused her creative talents on painting smaller items, including wooden bowls and decorative accessories. Her favorite subjects to paint in bright, energetic colors are fruits, vegetables, flowers and contemporary designs. Devine is a self-taught artist whose Georgia O’Keefe-style floral pieces of poppies and petunias are sought after.

Devine knew as a child she wanted to become an artist but first tried a variety of “paying” careers. Finally, in her 40s, she decided to pursue her life-long dream of becoming a full-time artist. Although her formal art career began later, art was always part of Devine’s life so she took art classes wherever she lived or traveled, whether she was in Wisconsin, New York, California or New Mexico.

According to Devine, “I use bold colors to create pieces that inspire joy, delight and happiness in my clients. I firmly believe my next piece is always going to be my best piece ever. Every time I paint, no matter how long I’ve been doing it, each piece gets better and better.”

For the auction, Devine has hand-painted nine, 12- and 14-inch Aspen pine wood bowls. The bowls are decorated inside and out and showcase a variety of flowers, fruits and vegetables that are saturated with color. For example, one bowl features a gorgeous collection of green, red and yellow peppers paired with tomatoes and eggplant. Other bowls present a single, large flower, such as a bright red or yellow poppy or a purple petunia. To view Devine’s work, visit
