???Arsenic and Old Lace???

What is it about "Arsenic and Old Lace"? When you hear or see this title, I’ll bet for many of you, an image of old ladies in black dresses, with shawls and "funny hats", comes to mind. Why? Probably because you remember seeing the movie by the same title, starring Cary Grant, in which he plays a drama critic with two aunts who put their lonely lodgers out of their misery by poisoning them. This movie was one of Grant’s many comedic hits, and, one which, in my opinion, has stood the test of (funny) time. The stage play, which preceded the film, has also stood the test of time, as it is continually being performed.

While community theater is most often equated with "amateur" theater, with the emphasis usually on the "unskilled performer" definition, I can say without fear of contradiction, that this cast has so much experience, on so many stages, that the definition of someone who "performs for pleasure, and not for pay", does fit, but "Extremely Experienced" would be a much better term. Some of the cast perform on a regular basis with other theater companies, and some haven’t been on the stage since high school. I defy you to tell which is which.

The cast and crew invite you to see their version of "Arsenic and Old Lace", opening on Friday, October 5th, at 7:30pm, at the West Allis Central High School Auditorium (85th & Lincoln). Additional performances will be on Saturday, October 6, and Friday and Saturday, October 12th and 13th, also at 7:30, with a special, matinee performance on Sunday, October 7th, curtain at 2pm.

General admission tickets can be purchased at the door (no advanced sales, no reserved seats) for $15 for adults, and $13 for students and Seniors. Our website, WAPlayers.org, has a printable coupon for $1 off the ticket price.
