Man's death now seen as homicide

West Allis - The death of a 57-year-old West Allis man is now believed by West Allis police to be a homicide, and authorities are asking for help to solve the case.

Jeffrey P. Garnier was found unconscious in the road in the 9100 block of Lincoln Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. Nov. 20. He died Nov. 25 at St. Luke's Medical Center. An autopsy revealed that he died from complications of being hit on the head, West Allis police said.

Police obtained surveillance camera images from an area business showing the victim being confronted by four males as he crossed Lincoln Avenue. One of them struck the victim, causing him to fall to the pavement, police said.

Police are pursuing the case as a homicide and are following multiple leads from neighborhood canvasses and surveillance video from other businesses in the area.

Investigators hope the public can help them piece together where Garnier was from 7 p.m. Nov. 19 until he was attacked about 2:30 a.m. Nov. 20. He had a 0.19 blood-alcohol content level. Police also would like to speak with witnesses who may have driven past the crime scene or were nearby during or after the assault.
