One killed, another injured in separate cycle accidents

Two unrelated incidents last weekend in West Allis involving motorcyclist collisions resulted in one person's death and one listed in critical condition at an area hospital.

According to separate reports from the West Allis police this week:

The first accident, in which a 43-year-old Greenfield man was killed, occurred at about 8:14 p.m. Saturday in the 7500 block of West Beloit Road.

The man was killed when his motorcycle clipped a West Allis Department of Public Works vehicle stopped in the road for street maintenance. He was thrown from his motorcycle and into the path of a vehicle. The man, later identified as Todd Peterke, died at the scene.

Police are continuing their investigation.

The other accident occurred about 7:20 p.m. Sunday, when two motorcyclists riding east on Greenfield Avenue collided, causing one rider to lose control and veer into oncoming traffic, where he collided with a westbound vehicle head-on.

The rider, a 51-year-old West Allis man, was still in critical but stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon at Froedtert Hospital.

The other motorcyclist, a 49-year-old West Allis man, also lost control and was thrown from his cycle that continued eastbound, hitting a parked vehicle and then going into oncoming traffic where it struck a vehicle. He was taken to Froedtert with nonlife threatening injuries, police said.

That incident also remains under investigation.
