GREENDALE/GREENFIELD BOYS SWIMMING
Rick Perez won the 100 backstroke in 54.61 seconds in the Bob White Invitational at Wauwatosa West on Saturday.
He also helped the 200 medley relay team, with Ross Rybakowicz, Andrew Staszak and Adam Fleischhacker, prevail in 1 minute, 43.03 seconds.
Placing second were Perez in the 200 individual medley (2:03.22), Staszak in the 500 freestyle (5:08.38) and the 400 freestyle team of Perez, Shaun Lucchesi, Staszak and Fleischhacker (3:25.81).
Diver Liam Duffy was also second with a personal-best 359.25 points, earning the praise of coach Cheryl Weber.
'Consistency was the key, and it appears to be getting better every week,' Weber said.
The Panther-Hawks scored 291 points for third place in the 10-team event.
A total of five pins gave the Falcons a 48-18 triumph over New Berlin in a Woodland Conference dual on Jan. 23.
Recording the pins were Anthony Senthavisouk at 113 pounds, Mark Burakowski at 138, Nick Monty at 145, Ryan Olson at 152 and Zach Price at 160.
Taking decisions were Zach Barnhart (6-3), Michael Langenohl (2-1), Joe Price (7-4) and Blake Leslie (8-3).
WHITNALL BOYS SWIMMING
The Falcons made two trips to Shorewood last week, dropping a 118-58 Woodland Conference dual to the Greyhounds on Jan. 23 and finishing ninth in the Small School State Meet on Saturday with 121 points.
Diver Nick Bell came in third with 359.25 points, while Jake Hodel took fourth in the 100 breast stroke at 1 minute, 5.85 seconds. Ben Hinson, Hodel, Jack Larson and David Monteilh placed sixth in the 200 medley (1:48.06) and seventh in the 400 freestyle (3:31.49).
WHITNALL BOYS BASKETBALL
In back-to-back nailbiters, the Falcons earned a split last week.
They lost to Greendale, 59-58, on Friday, after tipping Wauwatosa West, 79-78, on Jan. 22.
Against Tosa West, Sam Mentkowski tallied on a putback to put his team up by one with 12 seconds left, then Danny Weymier stole the inbounds pass and converted a three-point play for a four-point advantage.
Weymier finished with 25 points, while Mitch Brault added 16 and Nathan Schaefer 10. Head coach Steve Kujawa said Trenton Coleman made some key plays as well.
Whitnall trailed Greendale by one late in Friday's game before Weymier hit two free throws. Jordan Perez then scored for the Panthers.
Weymier scored 21 points and Brent Sluka 14 for the Falcons, who fell to 8-5 in the Woodland Conference and 10-6 overall.
The Hustlin' Hawks went 2-3 in the Sheboygan South Duals on Saturday.
They beat Madison East, 43-23, and Milwaukee King, 63-7, while losing to Menomonee Falls, 57-12; Oshkosh North, 63-9; and Sheboygan South, 39-36.
Matt Braatz went 4-1 at 195 pounds, while Tommy Friedbacher (145), Dylan Kumbera (126), Victor Castro (138) and Tyler Dorfner (152) all posted three victories.
Greenfield also lost a 54-11 Woodland Conference dual to Wauwatosa on Jan. 23. Winners were Dorfner (13-7), Brandon Tolbert at 220 (17-2) and Alex Morton at heavyweight (8-2).
HALE BOYS BASKETBALL
Derrick Waller scored a game-high 28 points, while Noel Crabtree put in 21, Peter Heal 11 and Nick Sotiros 10 to help the Huskies beat Grafton, 76-64, on Jan. 22.
The Huskies lost to Marquette, 68-43, on Friday despite 21 points from Waller. Hale went to 1-7 in the Greater Metro Conference and 8-8 overall.
CENTRAL BOYS BASKETBALL
The Bulldogs fell victim to 38 points by Sussex Hamilton's Brady Ellingson in a 66-55 loss on Friday night.
Jequan Carson scored 15 points, Jaquan Martin 13 and Tony Helm eight for Central, which fell to 2-6 in the Greater Metro Conference.
Central (7-9 overall going into this week) dropped a 73-63 decision to Milwaukee Vincent on Jan. 22 despite 22 points from Brandon Key.
GREENFIELD BOYS BASKETBALL
Travis Reszczynski tallied 21 points and Sonnie Wilbert 15 as the Hustlin' Hawks downed St. Francis, 67-64, on Jan. 22.
The Hawks fell to Pewaukee, 72-40, on Friday. Kyle Schahczinski scored nine points for Greenfield, which slipped to 7-7 in the Woodland Conference and 7-10 overall.
GREENFIELD GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mallory Kleczka totaled 18 points for the Hustlin' Hawks, who downed St. Francis, 65-53, on Jan. 22.
Erika Deubig added 12 points and Tuyet Nguyen nine for Greenfield, which pulled away with a 15-6 fourth quarter.
The Hawks lost to Pewaukee, 62-32, on Friday as Dana Schwab scored nine points. Greenfield fell to 2-11 in the Woodland Conference and 3-11 overall.
WEST ALLIS SWIMMING
The Wave lost a 129-47 dual to Brookfield on Jan. 24.
West Allis swept the top three spots in diving behind Sam Lustig's 173 points, Devin Deering's 142.85 points and Kyle Tubbs' 110.9 points. Dale Medved earned second in the 100 backstroke with 1 minute, 12.82 seconds.
The Wave then finished 11th in Saturday's Racine Case Invitational with 51½ points.
CENTRAL GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Bulldogs fell to Sussex Hamilton, 57-12, on Friday night in a Greater Metro Conference game.
Bria Brown scored seven points for Central, which also lost to Catholic Memorial, 42-14, on Jan. 22.
HALE GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Huskies lost to powerful Divine Savior Holy Angels, 58-13, on Friday night.
Marissa Rechlicz tallied four points for Hale, which fell to 2-6 in the Greater Metro Conference.
The Huskies dropped a 62-29 game to New Berlin West on Jan. 23 despite 11 points and three steals from Sarah Mueller.
