Polish Heroes

Oct. 12, 2012

The Polish Center of Wisconsin announces the opening of an international photographic exhibit honoring Polish rescuers of Jews during World War II.

"Polish Heroes: Those Who Rescued Jews" pays tribute to the more than 6,000 Poles who have been honored as Righteous Among the Nations by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority in Israel. The exhibition focuses on 21 such individuals from the Kraków region. Their stories, written in English and in Polish, accompany portraits by the late photographer Chris Schwarz.

Co-curated by the Auschwitz Jewish Center, the Galicia Jewish Museum, and the Polish/American/Jewish Alliance for Youth Action, the exhibit is on loan from the
Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków, Poland.

The public is cordially invited to attend a free opening reception at The Polish Center:

Sunday, October 21, 2012
2:00 p.m.

Jakub Nowakowski, Director of the Galicia Jewish Museum, will speak about Polish rescuers of Jews and their recognition at Yad Vashem.

The exhibit will continue through November 30.
